Dominique De Beir began her career during the 1990s following her studies at the Ecole nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris (Studio Pierre Buraglio). She was the winner of the prix Jeune Peinture in 1995. She has had many exhibitions of her work since 1996, her work has been exhibited in France, the Netherlands, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Korea .. and her works are included in a number of public and private European collections. The Museum am Oswall in Dortmund, Germany presented her first major solo museum exhibition in 2000.

Dominique de Beir perforates paper, cardboard and also polystyrene - Jostling aside the vocabulary of painting (material, medium and colour) in favour of the uncertainty of gestures and the scars they leave, Dominique De Beir strives to concentrate on the ideas of scratching and scarring, between surface and depth, exploring the physical impact, rhythm. Carrying perforation sometimes to the limit of what the material can withstand, she plays on an inherent ambiguity between composition and destruction, opacity and transparency, stability and fragility. Recently Dominique perforates wall objects in polystyren and treats them with wax and pigments – those are poetic works that look like abstract paintings, but outdistance traditional materials and techniques.
