Hidden Behind Walls
This exhibition is the final in a series of anniversary exhibitions focussing on 50 years Museum Krona. 50 years of Art, Monastery, and Herb Garden partially concealed behind walls. Hidden Behind Walls showcases the result of half a century of collecting, with icons, silver, sculptures, textiles, relics and paintings, from the time of Hieronymus Bosch to Marc Mulders. These works are complemented by unique loans from monasteries, churches, and from private individuals, often previously unknown to many. Among these extraordinary objects are a wonderful crozier from 1536 from the monastery of the Norbertines of Heeswijk-Dinther and an impressive Man of Sorrows from the parish of Oostrum, made by Master Arnt who during his lifetime worked along the Lower Rhine in Kalkar and, later, in Zwolle

Kubus. Sparda-Kunstpreis 2024
Ausstellung mit Thomas Müller

The "Kubus" art prize, jointly established by Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg and the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, will be awarded for the sixth time in 2024. The €20,000 award recognizes outstanding artistic achievements and is aimed at artists with a connection to the state of Baden-Württemberg.
The focus of this year's edition is on drawing. From the proposals submitted by representatives of Baden-Württemberg's art institutions, a jury has nominated three artists for the award - Thomas Müller, Gabriela Oberkofler and Jürgen Palmtag - who approach extended drawing from different perspectives. Drawing is an independent genre within art. It has long since emancipated itself from the status of a preliminary study for paintings and now reaches expansive dimensions for diverse forms of expression with a wide variety of means - from pencil to paintbrush to spray can.
For the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, the artists will each create walk-in installations with their drawings on one level of the cube. The range of their themes includes formal and aesthetic considerations as well as socio-critical and ecological aspects. During the exhibition, the winner will be selected by another jury. At the end of the exhibition, an additional audience prize will be awarded by Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg. can you tell me the titles of the works?

INGLEWOOD Cathedral, exhibition of paintings by LUCAS REINER
November 17 – December 17, 2023
LOS ANGELES (Venice, October 10, 2023) – ARCANE Space gallery is pleased to announce the launch of its fall season with INGLEWOOD Cathedral, a solo exhibition of paintings from 2016 to the present by Los Angeles and Berlin based artist Lucas Reiner. In this body of work the trees of Inglewood, normally a background element for the urban environment, are foregrounded to become the subject for a kind of devotional portrait, suggesting an expanded, empathic vision of urban nature as resilient and sacred. This is Reiner’s first solo show in his home city of Los Angeles since 2009. Since 2010 he has been exhibiting his Trees and Stations painting cycles primarily in Europe. A signed, limited-edition catalogue based on this exhibition will also be available for sale.
Curated by ARCANE Space Co-Founder/Director Morleigh Steinberg, INGLEWOOD Cathedral is on view November 17 throughDecember 17, 2023, with opening eventNovember 18 from 5pm – 7pm. ARCANE Space is located at 324 Sunset Avenue Unit G, in Venice, CA 90291. Gallery hours are Friday – Sunday from 10:30 am- 4:30 pm and Thursday by appointment).
“…it was admiring the majestic trees flanking Ferraro, Italy’s San Benedetto church, his mind and eyes fresh from the glow of an exhibition of Chardin paintings, and noticing their domed coiffures and cathedral-like rise of archways and lofty, filtered light. He photographed them and made a suite of 67 monoprints about them. This was in 2010. Later, outside the Inglewood studio where he’s worked since 2012, Reiner came to realize that the neighborhood’s trees, backlit by the glow of the new megawatt stadium arena, held the same power.” – Shana Nys Dambrot, from the INGLEWOOD Cathedral catalogue
Since 2001 Reiner has devoted himself to the theme of the unobserved urban tree in sustained contemplation. Starting with photographs and sketches and portraits, he paints their ‘portraits’, as they grow, some crooked, hindered or maltreated, on the sidewalks of the city. Executed on canvas with a subdued palette of tempera and wax, his minimalist intimate portrayal of the Inglewood trees is a distinct departure from traditional landscape painting. His trees are imperfect – their wounds imposed by the hostile, urban environment where they are rooted and radically manicured by man as urban obstacles. The trees ultimately, triumphantly self-correct in their vertical pursuit of light and infinitude. Abstracted from their urban setting and celebrated through his portraiture as sacred individuals, his trees are the protagonists of our urban life, whose oxygen, shade and sanctuary evoke the cathedral of nature.
Additionally, the exhibition will include a film Reiner made at the invitation of the Silverlake Film Festival, Trees in Los Angeles. Shot in 8-millimeter black and white, and filmed and edited by Heather Seybolt, the static camera as witness creates portraits of individual street trees throughout Los Angeles.
“Can the outside of a church be as sacred as the inside? A painting too can be a kind of passageway to a sacred place, and with the Inglewood Cathedral paintings I wonder if the reverence we have for art can be extended to all that surrounds us. As we step under their unassuming branches, what if the cathedral begins here, on North La Brea Ave., on Centinela Ave, on La Cienega Blvd?” – asks Reiner.

"A series of seven monumental Plexiglas paintings, The Four Seasons is a series of sentimental landscapes and images reassembled through Daniel Schlier's poetry.
Although a horizon line structures each of the landscapes, they are nonetheless disorienting: watery skies, celestial cows, and other milky mountains reveal themselves in the ethereal materiality of the Plexiglas.
In addition to the influences of German Romanticism and abstraction, the strength of Four Seasons Panorama lies primarily in its elegiac, sensitive, and unstable composition."

“because I am human”
4 November 2022 until 5 March 2023
Martin Assig (born 1959) creates abstract, often colorful and powerful works with the ancient technique of encaustic, the wax painting. His works always deal with the human being and the conditions of his being. The physical existence as well as its threat belong to Assig's range of themes as well as philosophical- religious questions or the resilience of man. The MKM is showing a comprehensive exhibition of the artist's work with around 90 works from the 1990s to the present, including a variety of large-format panel paintings as well as numerous works on paper.

Marc Mulders at the DE PONT Museum
"In addition to other works by Mulders, the recently acquired monumental painting Hunt for Paradise (Hope) 19.09.20 (2020) will be exhibited for the first time. This canvas is part of a striking series in his oeuvre where ominous black forms bring tension to the paradisal atmosphere and create a fusion, as it were, of 'bloom' and 'doom'.
The work came about during the pandemic, when Mulders discovered that contaminated soil was being illegally dumped on the Oostelbeers country estate where he lives and works. Now, two years later, the painting more generally became a symbol of the current criseses in the world. It is being shown with three preparatory sketches and in relation to earlier work from the collection."

Framed Process – Lucy Teasdale
“I want to go back to basics and work to develop new forms in clay. A phrase often heard recently is “In these unprecedented times…”. I want to take this moment to look back at other turning points in history, for example 1848, the year of revolutions. As a starting point I’ll take an image of a ragged-trousered standard bearer, waving his flag in an enormous circle. I want to carry on this movement and make a sculpture built around a spiral. Perhaps it will be possible to repeat the figures, to pile on top of one another to create a swirling totem pole of revolutionary figures.”
