“Prophecy”
As the poets’ words shall resonate, the artist shall have vision.
To prophesy is the ability to not only read and interpret the writings on the wall, but to use images of the past to show predictions of the future. Collective images resonate; they awaken long sleeping associations and trigger emotional memories.
‘Prophecy’ is a selection of Angela Dwyer’s works on paper spanning two decades. Her work mediates the space between language as image and image as language. By presenting words taken out of their original context as pictorial elements, she brought handwriting into the realm of drawing. By bringing classical figures into her written works, she re-establishes their iconic presence independent of narrative or symbolism. ‘Prophecy’ creates subliminal interactions between the sacred and the profane; a 20-year liaison between the intellectual and the personal vision.
